Republican politician Mike Johnson was re-elected as Speaker of the US House of Representatives. He received 216 votes in the first round, two votes short of the required quorum (218 votes). However, Johnson was able to obtain the necessary votes in the second round of voting and consolidate his position as Speaker of the House.

The Speaker of the House is one of the most powerful positions in Washington, controlling the lower house of the US Congress and is second in line to the presidency after the vice president.
