The human rights organization known as “Hengaw” has said that Iran has carried out the execution of at least 12 prisoners in its prisons over the past month, including three Afghan citizens.
This organization, on Sunday, released a report stating that in the past month, executions of nine prisoners in Iran have been carried out every other day.
According to “Hengaw,” those executed include at least 11 political and religious prisoners, while other executions are related to intentional homicide, sexual assault, and drug-related crimes.
According to the organization’s report, “During November, at least 23 Baluch prisoners, equivalent to 19% of the total executed prisoners, and 19 Kurdish prisoners, equivalent to 15.5%, were executed. Additionally, at least eight Turk prisoners, five Lur and Bakhtiari prisoners, five Gilaki prisoners, and three Afghan citizens were also executed in Iran last month.”
The report by the Hengaw organization also highlights that 39 cases were registered in Alborz prison, 13 in Sistan and Baluchistan, 12 in Fars province, and five in Isfahan province.
It is worth noting that the report does not specify the charges for which the three Afghan citizens were executed.
Meanwhile, the increase in executions in Iran has triggered severe reactions from the United Nations and human rights organizations. According to the European Union’s report, at least 600 individuals have been executed in Iran since the beginning of the current calendar year.
