A passenger train, going from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada, collided with another train, Palasa Express, en route to Visakhapatnam on Sunday. Nine people have died and 32 have been injured in the accident so far.
The collision of the trains led to the derailment of bogies in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and said that rescue operations are underway.
“PM Modi has reviewed the situation. I spoke to the Andhra Pradesh CM. The situation is currently under control,” he said.
The trains collided at around 7 pm on Sunday, following which two rear coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train and the engine of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train got derailed.
